Sigourney Weaver will don her space suit once more
The buzz about a re-boot of the Alien franchise that has been gathering over the net for the past few months seems to have paid off for District 9 director Neill Blomkamp.
Last week he wrote on Instagram, “So I think this is officially my next film.” This week, Sigourney Weaver confirmed that she is up for a reprise of Lieutenant Ripley.
This film will be separate from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus 2, though Scott will produce both films with his company Scott Free.
Blomkamp mounted a very persuasive PR campaign on behalf of his vision for Alien by circulating striking graphics via the internet. The picture above seems to suggest that Ripley is going to get even closer to the monster this time, although when asked by Jonathan Ross about the artwork, Weaver responded, “I have no idea what that is all about”.
Alien’s fans (like me) must be breathing a sigh of relief that a director with vision and imagination will take the helm for the new Alien, providing a return to the exciting and horrifying spectacles of early Alien and an escape from the ghastly rigor-mortis-inducing effects of yet more Prometheus.
